Is China a serious threat to US interests?
Based on new economic data, and the purge that represents 64% of its senior PLA officers missing…maybe not.
Maybe the question is this—perhaps unthinkable in many quarters—, but I believe worth consideration: “Is the US Military a threat to US interests?”
Some cost and human life considerations:
Korea $400-$500 billion (in today’s dollars). 54,246 dead.
Vietnam $1.5 trillion (in today’s dollars). 58,220 dead.
War on Terror, $8 trillion, and includes Afghanistan 2001-2021 and Iraq 2003-2011. 7,057 dead. 53,000 US service members wounded.
Ukraine War, $113 billion of your tax dollars.
I would argue that all of these wars were a waste of lives and trillions of dollars. In the words of Charlie Kirk, prove me wrong!
The US military is currently in 178 of 198 countries. To my Catholic friends, you’ll be happy to know they’re not inside the Vatican! To my Protestant friends, “Yes, the Vatican is a country (with great big walls and a military that keeps immigrants out, protecting Pope Leo’s papal edicts condemning the US for kicking illegal immigrants out.)” Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.
The US spends $1 trillion annually on defense. That amount is larger than the next 10 countries combined, and includes China, Russia, India, Saudi Arabia, the UK, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea, and Ukraine.
Where are the Chinese and the Russian military? Ukraine. Congo. Lebanon. Sudan. Cambodia. Cuba. And that’s about it. It’s actually kind of sad when you think about it.
Did I mention that we owe the Chinese $782 billion, and they owe the United States exactly nothing?
And the beat goes on.
